Details:
So, I returned to Squaw on Saturday, for my first day back on the slopes since the knee injury (after a 16-day hiatus). Being the weekend after President's Day, crowds were still really bad, especially due to some upper mountain closures. Despite the ant population on Mt. Run, I managed to ride it for a few hours, without ever waiting in a line (Squaw One Express). Still, the thicket of beginners clogging every corner of the Mt. Run was a bit distracting - and after a couple of hours, my knee started getting a little tired - so I knocked off early. "I've got three days to ride" I was telling myself - and there was the promise of new snow for Sunday. The snow on the lower mountain (especially where it had already been pushed around) was a bit heavy - and there wasn't enough slope for how deep it was in some spots (like Far East off of Resort). At any rate, the snow continued to fall - and just after noon, they opened the upper mountain! There was NOBODY up there - I think the storm discouraged some, and the rest never realized that it opened. The powder up here was so LIGHT and FLUFFY - serious "Died and Gone to Utah" champagne powder - and LOTS of it. I'm certain that by the time I got up to Solitude, Siberia, etc - there was at least 2 FEET of the fresh stuff. Just unreal. Needless to say, I didn't quit early THAT day - I put in a full day, logging over 26K vertical feet.
