Old Newsletter! 12/9/15

Hello Skiers and Riders!!

Things are moving fast, fast….fast! After a couple of years drooling out the side of our mouths, we actually have to keep up with what’s happening around Northern California and Tahoe in particular. Lotta weather news, as two systems work through. This should wrap up on Monday. We put our best estimates on new snow below in the weather section. The key is to remember these are coming with a lot of wind. That changes everything, and will have lifts on wind hold, perhaps resorts closing if the winds and snow get overwhelming. An excellent problem to have.

We are stuffed to the gills with great info for readers this week, and lots more we couldn’t make room for. That’s where Facebook works great. Make sure to fan us, and we will have the 24-7 skinny rocking, as long as we don’t run out of coffee and donuts.

The best deal on the planet right now is the Ski Lake Tahoe Six Pack. This will save you a ton against buying at the window, and the tickets are valid holidays. *Ski Lake Tahoe Six-Pack!

Squaw is having their $59 Learn to Ski/Ride This Weekend. Dress warm if you’re taking advantage of this great rate!

Ski Sunday for $5.00! Right. Tahoe Donner is having customer appreciation Day. My gosh, for a warm up day for the family, you cannot beat that, and TD has plenty of snow this year.

There is so MUCH more, sliders! Scan down and check out everything we handpicked for you today.

And…check out the ICE review from one of the top 500 reviewers for Amazon, then jump on there and take a roller coaster ride, SOTC style.

(We’re not weather forecasters…we’ve just been playing one on GoPro for a long time.)

1-2 feet at Lake Level, 2-4 above 8,000 feet by Saturday morning. The Bay Area temps are in the 60’s. It’s typical to see rain early, then falling temperatures, with the best quality snow at the end of the show.
The X factor.
When storms push over the Sierra, they are forced into colder air, and they ring-out like a sponge. High winds, means the storms are moving at a faster pace, less snow.

Saturday Storm: The atmosphere has been primed, snow levels will start lower, end lower with about the same, or a bit more than they Friday Storm.
By Monday:

The CREW estimates at this point, 2-3 feet (total) at Lake Level, 5 plus above 8,000 feet. The snows at Heavenly, Kirkwood, Top Squaw Alpine Sugar Bowl, Rose, will be fantastic…but you won’t get to the summits for a day or two, if the wind forecast holds.

Our Picks For the Weekend: Northstar, Diamond Peak, Homewood will be your best bet through Monday. Then it will go off-the-chain Tuesday-Friday for Powder skiers at high altitude. This is not a true light POW event, still, gonna be fantastic.

The tickets are flexible – outside of blackout dates, you can use them anytime up until April 30, 2016. They’re also transferable, so if you want to use a few and then decide to share the love and pay it forward to a friend, you can do that too.

And at under $65/day, it truly is the best lift ticket deal around. So get one to give and to keep. We hear prices are going to increase very soon!

A thrilling adventure…

I am a huge fan of historical adventures that may add in some unconventional elements to make an intriguing story. Some of my favorite authors in this genre are Preston & Child, James Rollins, and Clive Cussler. I was thrilled to find author Kevin Tinto’s debut novel, “ICE”, that also pulls these elements together masterfully and it was a fantastic read. The story of Leah, an archaeologist, and her estranged husband, Jack, who set off on an adventure to Antarctica after a discovery in New Mexico. There is mystery here, danger, and a wonderful fast-paced adventure that kept me highly engaged. I loved the two main characters and their intense relationship and am excited to see that this will be a continuing series. Very well done.”

Northstar, Cali is one of the best resort to ski/ride during any storm cycle. Down in the trees, the runs are rarely on lift hold. Also, skip the gondola and take the Village chair up, as long as you can ski at level 4 and above. It’s a way shorter line!

Northstar California is home to the Burton Snowboard Academy located within the Adventure, Guiding and Learning Center, in addition to a world-class Ski and Snowboard School. For Learn to Ski and Ride Month the resort offers Half-Day Morning Beginner Ski and Snowboard group lessons starting at $155 and including all-day equipment rentals and limited-access lift tickets. Visit NorthstarCalifornia.com for more details and to reserve.

On Thursday night, Northstar has Noel Nights series – guests can enjoy rides around The Village on a one-horse open sleigh with two gorgeous draft horses: Chance and Duke. We have Santa Clause, ice skating, gingerbread makings, crafts and face painting. It’s a spectacular way to kick off the holidays.
