Sliding on the Cheap! New England
Take Advantage Of Great Deals As The Season Winds Down!
Greetings Sliders,

As we approach April the first, and innovators in the USA create alternative delivery systems to orbit, the waiting list for skiing the mountains of Mars is still surprisingly low. What the heck? Olympus Mons (Latin for Mount Olympus) is a large volcanic mountain on the planet Mars.

It is almost three times as tall as Mount Everest and is the tallest known volcano in the Solar System. Okay so the air might be too thin for heli-skiing but when has that ever stopped a forward thinker who's willing to embrace blimps or zeppelins? Warren Miller, Teton Gravity are you listening?

So, the big news continues to be next season's passes. Some deals will change SOON. Is it a gamble? Of course, you're betting for Mother Nature to come through for you like this year. Downside being where can I shovel the excess load around the house? Hmmm, is that like shoveling shtufff?

*Plan Ahead For Next Season Now!
To review: the majority of deals might be found by planning ahead for next season but in the past, some areas offer last minute spring deals. Be vigilant, do your homework.
There's equipment, transportation, food, and the intangibles that only make sense after the fact. It's spring, or nearly so. Got friends with kids who've just outgrown their stuff? Get on it, make an offer!

*Saddleback
Still time to hop on Maine Days – $29 lift tickets available to Maine residents on April 3. ID required. Proof of full time residency is driver’s license, auto registration or voter registration.

*Shawnee Peak, ME
. There are "plan ahead" deals worth checking out. For example:
Peak Sunday Pass - No Restrictions

*Shawneepeak.
$255.00 On Sale! Purchase before April 8 and save $40!
No restrictions, no black outs, just great snow every Sunday!!
After just five visits, your pass is paid for!
For this deal and more visit: http://www.shawneepeak.com/docs/Shop_Online/page16.html

Perspective:
Some of these deals are killer, (sweet, rad, smokin', etc) especially if you have a few years under your belt.
I have skied with people in the 80+ club and the youngsters in the 60s-70s crowd.

In these groups I'm not necessarily the fastest skier then but I put stock in turns/carving. Is there anyone out there who's willing to run a GPS unit down the hill flat out and then repeat with creative carving to show us all the "miles traveled"?

*Sugarloaf, Sunday River, Loon
New England Pass
NEW! Payment Plan Purchase (Only available until 4/30/11)
- Pay $50 (per pass) at time of purchase, then four equal installments on 6/1/11, 7/1/11, 8/1/11, and 9/1/11. Payments must be paid by credit card on file. Payment plan option is only available for phone, mail, or in-person purchases until 4/30/11.

Slider Alert: Curiously as of 3/1511 this $50 reservation is not mentioned on the Loon site but it is on the Sunday River site. They're all under the same company umbrella...

Another caution, you may have to pick up your pass at the resort you purchased it from even though they're all owned by the same parent company. Hello? Aren't their databases integrated?

Phone: Call the Season Pass office at 1-800-THE-LOAF Monday-Friday 8am-6pm.
Mail: Send a completed Application, Payment Plan Agreement, and Waiver to Sugarloaf Season Passes, 5092 Access Rd, Carrabassett Valley, ME 04947

Please download Terms And Conditions of Use for your records. Order must be postmarked by 4/30/11.

Related: At Sunday there are more deals worth a peek:

But... If you check out the preferred parking "deal" you may think, "but Brettonwoods already favors passholders for parking without the extra "baksheesh" (google it). Still, I cannot put a value on kids, late, mini-van, "who cares about a few bucks".

*Jay Peak, Vt

Reminder. "All tickets require the purchase of a $5 J CARD." They can be reloaded online, a big convenience. This is a RFID card, Radio Frequency ID. It allows you to get near a reader, be authenticated and pass through. Such technology is now offered as a "passport card" by the US Department of State.

"The U.S. Passport Card can be used to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda at land border crossings or sea ports-of-entry and is more convenient and less expensive than a passport book. The passport card cannot be used for international travel by air."

Convenience can equal savings. Doesn't mean an ICE agent (Immigration Customs Enforcement) will give you a pass during a day trip over the border but at least it means you're in the system which can help, or perhaps hurt if you're on record for always trying to cross with too much beer, Cuban cigars, etc.

*Mad River Glen, VT
