Latest News & Best Deals!

!1/07/2009 Several readers clued us into this great deal -- get a free voucher for Boreal when you buy 10 bottles of Smart or Vitamin Water at Raley's, BelAir, or Nob Hill stores. It's currently on sale -- 10 for $10!. Offer available Dec 31-Feb 4th. Lift tickets valid Sundays through Fridays for the 2008-09 season, excluding Dec 31 to Jan 3, Jan 17-19, Feb 14-16.

!1/05/2009 Happy 2009!! Well, this is it -- you want to slide cheap? Then you need to get up to Tahoe now. If you are a fair-weather skier, the conditions couldn't be better. Abundant snowpack, great grooming, mild temperatures. Us powder junkies are looking for the next storm, about 2-weeks out, but if you like carving the groomed, you can do it for cheap: Check our Calendar for deals like $39 lift tickets on selected days at Kirkwood and Alpine. Or $56 at Northstar and $51 at Sierra. Also coming up this Sunday January 11: $35 Learn To Ski & Ride Day at Squaw and $25 Tahoe Women Service's Ski Day at Sugar Bowl.

If you haven't yet used those free lift tickets you got from the San Jose Ski & Snowboard Show, they're good at Bear Valley, Dodge Ridge or Sierra Summit Mon-Fri during the weeks of Jan 5-9 and Jan 26-30. Also, all of the mid-week deals and college discounts are valid again: Mt. Rose, Donner Ski Ranch, Tahoe Donner, Boreal, Squaw are back on. Oh yes, Learn to Ride/Ski for $25 at Sierra Jan 5-11 (Sorry, this was our error. This deal was valid last year). And don't forget to "Get More" at Sugar Bowl: $66 lesson/rental/lift packages Mon-Fri non-holiday, now available for kids ($56)!

If you can't go mid-week or find a deal for your favorite resort, sometimes your best bet is to pre-purchase unrestricted tickets at your local ski shop, like: Helm of Sun Valley (San Mateo), Lombardi's, Mel Cotton's, REI, or Mountain West in SF (Squaw and Kirkwood).

Or look into taking a bus trip! In some cases the lift tickets are priced so high (and the package from the bus is so cheap) that it's almost like getting a ride up for free! Check our calendar for dates and prices! Bay Area Ski Bus, Snowbomb Bus, NAC Ski Bus and Tahoe Snow and Sun (new and cheap!).

(Tips: NAC Ski offers a $6 off early booking discount for the first 25 people to sign up for each trip! For Bay Area Ski Bus, use promo code "sotc" to get $6 off 1-day bus trips and $11 off of 2- and 3-day trips.)

!12/1/2008 Woot, slidingonthecheap.com got mentioned in the San Francisco Chronicle.
